Besiki Stvilia (Assistant Professor) received his B.A. and M.S. degrees in Applied Mathematics from Tbilisi State University, Georgia in 1989, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Library and Information Science from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in 1997 and 2006. He studies and teaches about Information Quality Assurance, Metadata Design and Social Informatics. In particular he studies the evolving patterns of collaborative work organization and technology use in large community based open information systems, and develops models for information and metadata quality measurement, dynamics and effective intervention. He has more than 10 years of professional experience working as a systems librarian, information manager and software engineer. He has also been actively involved in developing library education and advocacy programs in Georgia and the Caucasus region.
